A Muslim female cricket coach has been presented with the RBS Asian Woman of Achievement in Sport Award for her brilliant work at Warwickshire and Worcestershire County Cricket Clubs.
Salma Bi, from Bordesley Green, was honoured for her hard work in raising the game’s awareness among girls with disabilities.
Ms Bi, 26, a nurse and Olympic volunteer, was praised by judges for ‘her remarkable ability to not only balance two polar opposite careers, but also her ability to succeed in both, showing extraordinary commitment and dedication’.
Nine other Asian women were also recognised from a shortlist of 52 candidates at the ceremony, which took place at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
Theresa May, Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities, said: “The winners of the Asian Women of Achievement Awards are truly inspiring.”
